Steam driver experience day

Give someone an unforgettable gift with a steam driver experience day at South Tynedale Railway.

This gift voucher lets the recipient step onto the footplate and take the controls of one of our heritage locomotives. After a full health and safety briefing, they will help warm the engine up before climbing aboard for three return journeys to Slaggyford, guided throughout by one of our experienced steam crews.

Participants must be aged 18 or over and have a reasonable level of fitness as they will need to climb in and out of the cab. A footplate sign-off form must be completed before the experience begins.

The experience will take place on a mutually convenient date during one of our off-season months: November, January, February or March.

It’s the ultimate hands-on gift, perfect for a special birthday or a unique Christmas present.
