Solar System Walk & Astro Joe Workshop

24th October 2019 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

First we will discover the planets on a gentle guided walk (2km round trip) along the South Tyne Trail with Astro Joe (bring wellies/boots and warm/waterproof clothing). Are they close together or far apart? How big are they, compared to each other?

After a short break we will reconvene in the Discovery Centre for a second activity. The second activity will be different depending on which of the three events you book on: design, build and launch an air-powered paper rocket – using a straw launcher and a stomp rocket launcher (10am to 12noon); or enjoy a Moon-themed art activity (1 to 3pm); or talk about your favourite planets and other exciting things in our universe, alongside looking at some projections and images (4 to 6pm).

On all events children will be able to see and hold some real meteorites, including pieces from the Moon and Mars. All three events are suitable for children aged four to 11 years. All children must be accompanied. These events are part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival running from 23 October to 3 November 2019 – www.NorthPenninesStarFest.org.uk #NorthPennStarFest19 #NPennDarkSkies
