Don’t just take our word for it…
Santa Specials at South Tynedale Railway really are special, but don’t just take our word for it!
A visitor from Carlisle said, “It’s become a family tradition now and we hope to come for many years to come.”
And SB from Newcastle said, “Had such a lovely day out, couldn’t have faulted it one bit.”
So, what happens at a Santa Special? Well, you’ll be greeted by our lovely platform Elves who will direct you to our ticket office on platform 1 to collect your tickets and then help you to board your train. You’ll be able to join in with some carol singing on your journey* and we will give you a spotter sheet with lots of things to look for as you travel through the wintry North Pennines behind one of our heritage steam locos.
When you return to Alston, our Chief Elf will be there to lead you to Santa’s Grotto and while you wait your turn to see the famous man in red there will be crafts to keep you busy and seasonal refreshments to warm you up and it’s all included in your ticket price!
We know how expensive Christmas is so we have kept our ticket prices the same as 2018. Children under 1 are free, children aged 1-14 are £11 and anyone aged 15 or over £14. And for £2 you can even bring your dog to see Santa too!
All child tickets include a present from Santa, a spotter sheet for the journey and a craft activity to complete whilst waiting to vist the grotto and all tickets include a train ride and seasonal refreshments.
So what are you waiting for?
As AC from Durham says, “It’s one of the best!”
*Please be aware, our carol singers are volunteers and there may be occasions when there are no carol singers on board the train.
