Join us for some family fun this Bank Holiday at South Tynedale Railway, Alston.
On Saturday 29th through to Monday 31st August the Bank Holiday Family Fun event will take place between 10.30 to 4pm. There will be steam locos on each of the train rides throughout the day and as usual pay once and travel all day. Visitors can make a whole day out combining train rides, walks and refreshments in the Buffer Stop café or picnic areas and enjoy the range of family fun activities.
Jason the Juggling Jester will be in attendance all three days with his giant bubbles, balloon modelling and of course juggling!
South Tynedale Railway’s giant Teddy will be holding court in the Teddy Bears’ play tent. There will be free craft activities; children’s railway story telling; train name-plate rubbings; colouring-in sheets; spotter cards: a treasure hunt and a Peter’s Railway quiz.
The “Driver for a Fiver” opportunity is not to be missed. Visitors can either fulfill a childhood ambition, or create a special memory with this chance to drive a diesel loco under the supervision of qualified staff. This activity is suitable for all ages from 5 years upwards.
Heather Palmer, General Manager said, “This is our last family fun gala before we start our capital works program and is one of the final opportunities to see Alston before its transformation commences later this year. If you haven’t been for a while then this is the time to come, we have some old favorites such as our real live driving experience along-side new additions such as Peter’s Railway quiz. There is something for every age so bring the whole family for a great day out over this fun filled weekend.”
