The Complete Railway Experience
Hop on a train, visit the engine sheds explore the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and enjoy a walk along the beautiful South Tyne, passing railway bridges and viaducts and The Church of the Holy Paraclete. The route crosses both river and railway and briefly joins the Pennine Way and Isaac’s Tea Trail. Tea and cake will greet you on your return to Alston with a tour of the engine sheds and a visit and talk at the new Discovery Centre.
Meet at: at Alston Station, GR NY 717467, CA9 3JB, at 10:30am for train to Slaggyford
Distance: 5.5 miles Ascent: 850 feet Descent: 705 feet
Walk Fee: £12 (includes steam train ride, guided tour, talk & slide show, tea /coffee and tray bake) Bring: packed lunch
