A marvellous new opportunity for a talented, experienced General Manager with engineering expertise, to lead the South Tynedale Railway Preservation Society’s (STRPS) operating company (STR Ltd) at a truly exciting time.
With the STR due to run trains into Slaggyford from early 2018, and the first comprehensive steam locomotive project ready to start now in the STR’s new Heritage Engineering Workshop, there is great potential to develop the STR’s place as a leading attraction in the North Pennines AONB.
The Society has an enviable track record of attracting major public and private sector investments and is committed to completing the South Tynedale Railway, recreating a 13-mile community railway for the first time since 1976, reconnecting the North Pennines AONB with the national network at Haltwhistle.
Reporting through STR Ltd Directors to the Society’s Board of Trustees, the General Manager will lead and develop the STR’s operating, engineering and commercial activities, and support a programme of continual developments.
The new General Manager will be articulate, approachable, enthusiastic, self-assured, reliable, self-motivated and practical, with considerable tact and good negotiating skills.
Educated to degree/HND level (or with equivalent experience) in an appropriate engineering discipline and in management, the new GM will have experience of both hands on and management input at senior level in the public, private, and/or voluntary sector; leading multiple teams; business planning implementation and monitoring; budgets, staff management and business development.
